Being Grateful Feels Great

Now is the time to appreciate everything

It’s encouraging to know that we can change for the better. We can stop collecting things that don’t matter to us and by doing so, gain more space to use and love the things we really do care about. We can stop letting the things we want, make us forget the things we already have. We can also remember that the most beautiful and useful things we have now were once among the things that we had only wished for. Now is a perfect time to appreciate them.

Our favourite things

Here’s how to discover our favourite thing. Go without it for 3 days. Then go without sleep for 3 days. We may discover that our favourite thing is sleep! Or maybe it’s the ability to breathe. Sometimes we forget that the truly valuable things in our lives are rarely objects.

The essentials and the excess

At the end of our lives, when we take an honest look back, chances are we won’t care so much about our junk. With a lifetime of experience and perspective, I’m sure we would say that what had profoundly affected our lives was less about our possessions and more about family and friends. In a toss-up of love versus stuff; love would win every single time. It’s true that the most important things in life are not things at all. Even if our relationships aren’t always great; our freedom, happiness and health are more important than every thing in our homes. Our ability to love and trust are more valuable than any object we own. Let’s keep the problems in perspective and celebrate what we have that’s truly valuable.

Decluttering to focus our intentions

Even though the things we own can help us in our lives, they can also become a huge distraction that can block us from connecting with people or achieving our aims. Clearing the clutter helps to focus on our intentions to create the best life for ourselves and those we love. We have the power to create our lives as we wish. Ensure that we’re carving out enough time and space for the stuff that’s actually making life worth living.

Re-assessing our priorities and appreciating the best things in life are not one-time activities. When we are feeling brave and have clear perspective, we realize the incredible value of what we already have.

Being Grateful feels Great

It’s a wonderful habit to feel grateful every day. Remembering everything we have to be thankful for makes it less likely that we’re spending too much time feeling needy or greedy. Advertising can make us feel that way, but envy isn’t good for anyone. A great habit to get into is to wake up remembering a few more reasons to be grateful each day. You may surprise yourself with the amount reasons to be thankful you already have.

When we are feeling gloomy and projecting negative energy, we may notice that people who want to keep feeling great may simply avoid us. In contrast, when we practice feeling grateful, it starts the day off with the kind of energy that feels wonderful. When we walk around exuding this great energy, people feel it and respond by adding more great energy.

Try it for a few weeks and see the difference it makes. I think you’ll want to continue because it simply feels great.
